Tejeda and Fataga from the south: is the mountain day trip for you?
Updated October 1, 2026 · 6 min read
Fataga and Tejeda in a day, from your hotel in the south and without a hire car: that’s what the Gran Canaria from Above: Fataga and Tejeda day trip is for — from €37.60 per person, seven to eight hours, 4.4 out of 5 from 91 reviews. Two adults pay €75.20 at the displayed rate, making it the cheapest of the four round trips in this comparison. It suits you if you want to see the interior without driving the hairpins yourself. It doesn’t suit you if you want a long hike or a whole afternoon in a single village. Anyone who only wants to give up half a day takes the Off-Road Valleys & Villages Jeep Tour for €69 and five hours.

What this route is actually selling
The product names Fataga, Tejeda and mountain viewpoints. Those are the basis for choosing it. You are paying to connect villages and scenery, with somebody else organising the journey. A photograph of Roque Nublo does not establish that the bus takes you to the walking trail, or that a hike is included.
Think of the village stop and the mountain view as two different pleasures. At a viewpoint you can understand the scale of the landscape quickly. In Tejeda, time to wander, sit down and look again is what makes the stop worthwhile. A route can include both while leaving surprisingly little unstructured time in either.
Tejeda has a specific reason to stop beyond the scenery: its almond sweets. The tourism authority describes the local tradition of marzipan and bienmesabe. Treat a bakery visit as a possible use of free time, rather than an included tasting. Gran Canaria tourism on Tejeda’s almond tradition.
Seven to eight hours does not describe the time in Tejeda
The listing gives a duration range, not a fixed return appointment. Before booking, ask how it applies to your pickup point. Time collecting passengers in the southern resorts can change what the day feels like even when everyone joins the same excursion.
Obtain the expected time in Fataga and Tejeda separately. “Free time” is useful only once you know whether it allows a café stop and a walk, or merely a quick look around. If Tejeda is the main reason for travelling, compare that answer with a more focused visit rather than counting the number of stops.
Avoid arranging a second prepaid activity immediately after the advertised return. This is our planning recommendation, not an operator’s cancellation rule. A day with mountain roads and several group stops does not need an additional race against the clock at the end.
The bends are part of the experience
An organised excursion removes the driving, but it does not remove the winding route. Someone who dislikes being a passenger on mountain roads will not necessarily enjoy this tour just because the reviews are positive. Judge it against your own experience of similar journeys.
Ask about the longest stretch between stops, whether seats are assigned and whether the group uses a coach or a smaller vehicle on your date. Do not buy on an assumption about vehicle size: the short description does not establish it. A smaller vehicle is also not a promise of a gentler journey.
If anyone in the family is prone to travel sickness, discuss it beforehand with your pharmacist, doctor or paediatrician. We are not recommending a medicine or a treatment. If the journey itself is likely to dominate your day, a shorter outing closer to your accommodation can be the better purchase.
What belongs in the price calculation
The €37.60 starting price is a useful comparison point, not a complete budget. The short description does not itemise lunch, drinks or every admission. Check the selected option’s inclusions before deciding that a more expensive excursion is poor value.
Keep purchases in Fataga or Tejeda separate from the tour fare. If lunch is optional, find out whether there is time to choose somewhere independently or whether the group stops at one restaurant. That matters to anyone with dietary requirements and to anyone who simply prefers to eat later.
A tour title also does not establish doorstep collection. Confirm the exact pickup and drop-off, particularly when comparing Puerto de Mogán with Maspalomas. Our guide to the southern resorts helps place your accommodation in the wider route.
Compare it with the right alternative
For walking towards the rock itself, start with the Roque Nublo excursion guide. The excursion compared there costs from €75 and has a different focus. The useful comparison is the walking programme and access arrangements, not whether both excursions contain a photograph of the same landmark.
For town visits without making Tejeda the centre of the day, there’s the Traditional Gran Canaria from the south round trip to Arucas, Firgas and Teror for €52 and eight hours; the guide to it covers the gaps in its short description. Compare other mountain excursions by their actual stops. “Interior”, “highlights” and “panoramic” are not interchangeable itineraries.

Our recommendation
For most people: the Gran Canaria from Above: Fataga and Tejeda day trip for €37.60. It’s the only one in this comparison that names both villages in its title and departs from the south — you don’t need to ask about the route first. Before paying, get the pickup point, village time and food arrangements answered together.

For first-time visitors who want to see as much as possible: the Gran Canaria Day Tour from Mogán, Maspalomas and Arguineguín for €44 and eight hours. With 2,093 reviews it has the broadest rating base here, but only reaches 4.2 out of 5 — three tenths below the jeep tour.
For families who don’t want to spend a whole day on a bus: the Off-Road Valleys & Villages Jeep Tour for €69 and five hours. It costs €31.40 more per person than Fataga and Tejeda and doesn’t go all the way up to Tejeda — but the afternoon is free in return.
This kind of excursion is not for you if you want a long independent hike, an unhurried afternoon in Tejeda, or an outing you can leave at any time. And if mountain roads regularly make you feel sick, a day full of hairpins is not a gain, however good the reviews.
