Palmitos Park near Maspalomas: what the €39 ticket actually gets you

Maspalomas: Palmitos Park Ticket with Dolphin and Bird Shows

The Palmitos Park Ticket with Dolphin and Bird Shows costs from €39 per person and has 4.8 out of 5 from 1,798 reviews. It covers all five shows, the aquarium, butterfly house and orchid garden — anyone who wants to see everything is tied to the park from 10.30 am to 4.45 pm. For families with a hire car, that’s a whole day for one price, and anyone who only wants the dolphins can come at 1.30 pm or 4 pm and have the rest of the day free. Two things worth knowing beforehand: the same adult ticket costs €35 online directly from the operator, and the dolphin pool has been the subject of a court case for years. Without a hire car, the Camel Safari Park in Fataga can be booked as the Camel Ride Safari w/ Optional Food & Transport for €48 — it does not cover Palmitos Park.

For the three entry tickets, the booking page doesn’t state a duration. Visitor reports on Tripadvisor mostly put a Palmitos Park visit at four to five hours.

Palmitos Park sits in a ravine north of Maspalomas. What the booking page doesn’t say: what the operator charges on its own website, how the day fits around the show times, how to get there without a hire car, how demanding the grounds are — and that the dolphin pool has been the subject of a court case for years.

What’s Included, and How the Day Fits Together

Every show is included in the admission price, whatever you paid for it. The current schedule: birds of prey at 11.30 am and 3 pm, an interactive show at 10.30 am, 1 pm and 4.45 pm, exotic birds at 2.30 pm, and dolphins at 1.30 pm and 4 pm. The aquarium, butterfly house and orchid garden run continuously from opening to closing. The operator doesn’t say how long any single show lasts, and reserves the right to change or cancel one for weather or safety reasons.

Work through the timings and the shape of the day becomes clear. Anyone who wants to see all five shows is tied to the park from 10.30 am to 4.45 pm — practically the whole day it’s open. If dolphins are all that matters to you, one visit at 1.30 pm or 4 pm is enough, and the rest of the day is yours.

Where the Ticket Is Really Cheaper — and Where It Isn’t

The €39 on the booking page matches exactly what the park charges adults at its own ticket counter. Buy directly through the operator’s website instead, and the same adult ticket costs €35 online. Children aged 5 to 10 pay €29 at the counter or €25 online; a “Mini” aged 3 or 4 years pays €15 with no online discount; children up to 2 years get in free. A Family Pack (two adults, two children) costs €118 online against €136 at separate counter prices, and a Friends Pack for four adults costs €138. Canary Islands residents with ID pay €25, €19 or €10. A 2-Park ticket combined with Aqualand Maspalomas costs €62 for adults, €45 for children, €23 for a Mini. Online tickets without a fixed date stay valid for 90 days from purchase.

We say this openly: we earn a commission if you book through the platform link on this page, and we’re still telling you that buying directly from the operator is cheaper — for a family, sometimes considerably. What the platform gets you is convenience, not a lower price.

Worth knowing before you queue at the counter: if you can’t prove a child’s age with ID or a passport, staff place them in an age band using a height gauge. The park doesn’t publish which height counts as which age — if that matters for your budget, ask the park directly beforehand.

Getting There Without a Hire Car

The address is Barranco de los Palmitos s/n, 35109 San Bartolomé de Tirajana, around ten kilometres north of Maspalomas. Global’s line 45 runs from Bahía Feliz, Playa del Inglés, San Agustín and Campo Internacional at 9.30 am, 10 am and 11 am, returning from the park at 2.45 pm, 3.30 pm, 4.30 pm, 5.15 pm and 6 pm. Line 70 runs from Puerto de Mogán, Puerto Rico, Amadores and the Faro de Maspalomas at 9.30 am, 10 am and 10.30 am (9.50 am from Playa de Amadores), returning at 3.35 pm, 4.35 pm and 5.15 pm. The operator doesn’t state the journey time or fare, and the park runs no shuttle of its own; whether parking costs anything also isn’t stated anywhere — check locally if you’re coming by car.

Anyone who’d rather not deal with the bus can book the camel ride in Fataga separately: the Camel Ride Safari w/ Optional Food & Transport, €48, three hours, 4.2 out of 5 from 1,268 reviews, at the Camel Safari Park in the Fataga nature reserve. The description doesn’t mention Palmitos Park — the ticket stays for that.

What the Grounds Are Really Like

Sources disagree on the park’s size: Wikipedia gives 20 hectares, the official tourism portal holaislascanarias.com gives 240,000 square metres. You can bring your own food and drink, but not in glass containers; several cafeterias, one restaurant and a few snack points don’t publish prices. The park’s rules require supervising children and not feeding the animals, and state no age or height limits for individual areas.

Visitor reports on Tripadvisor, not the operator, describe a hilly, partly steep ravine and mention electric scooters for rent in the park. Neither comes from the park itself — check accessibility directly with the park beforehand rather than relying on reports.

How Much Time to Plan For

The operator doesn’t state a typical visit length. Visitor reports on Tripadvisor mostly put it at four to five hours, which lines up with the show schedule above if you catch more than one or two performances.

The Dolphin Pool and the Dispute Around It

The dolphin pool was built in 2010. In June 2017, the Canary Islands’ highest court ruled it had been built without the required permit, and Spain’s Supreme Court upheld that ruling in 2020. In March 2024, a demolition order was in place; the operator, Aspro Parks, had lodged a further appeal, and enforcement was suspended pending that decision. The pool covers 3,000 square metres. What’s happened with the case since is unclear.

The dispute reaches beyond the courtroom: in May 2024, Jet2 Holidays and easyJet Holidays stopped selling tickets for parks with dolphin shows, and TUI said it was reviewing its position. The operator’s pages carry no statement on the pool’s legal status, no information on any breeding programme, and no listed membership of the zoo and aquarium bodies EAZA, AIZA or WAZA. The park does run education programmes for school groups, priced by age.

None of that changes what’s actually on sale: the dolphin show runs, alongside the other four shows and the aquarium, on the same ticket described above. If the dispute is reason enough for you to skip it, nothing stops you visiting the rest of the park anyway — and if you’d rather see dolphins outside a pool, whale and dolphin watching trips run from the south from €30. The park also sells a paid “dolphin encounter” lasting over 30 minutes for up to 16 people, bookable only in person on the day; the park doesn’t state a price, minimum age or minimum height.

Who the Park Isn’t For

Anyone with only a day or two left in the south should weigh the five-show schedule above before booking — seeing everything fills the day, a real trade-off against a beach day or a boat trip. Anyone not interested in animal shows at all gets less for the €39 than the aquarium and gardens alone would justify. And anyone who rejects dolphins in a pool on principle should weigh that against the unresolved legal situation above before buying — the rest of the park doesn’t require it.

Families weighing this against other days out can find costs in What a Gran Canaria Family Holiday Really Costs; Gran Canaria with Kids shows which excursions suit which ages. Two outings that pair well with a day in the south: the Poema del Mar aquarium and a camel ride through the Maspalomas dunes. More animal parks and tours are listed under excursions on Gran Canaria.

Our Recommendation

For most people: the Palmitos Park Ticket with Dolphin and Bird Shows for €39. Five shows, aquarium, butterfly house and gardens for one price, 4.8 out of 5 from 1,798 reviews — and you decide yourself whether to plan an hour or the whole day around it. If you’re booking a few days ahead, compare the price with the park’s own website first: the same ticket costs €35 online there, and €118 instead of €136 for a family of four.

For families without a hire car: the Camel Ride Safari w/ Optional Food & Transport for €48 and three hours, 4.2 out of 5 from 1,268 reviews. It brings the camel ride in Fataga, with food and transport optional — it does not cover Palmitos Park, so the ticket stays for that.

For children who want to slide: the Aqualand Maspalomas entry ticket for €41, 4.1 out of 5 from 1,630 reviews. The operator sells a ticket covering both parks for €62 — cheaper than two single tickets if you’re really going twice.

Palmitos Park isn’t for you if animal shows are a dealbreaker, or if you only have one holiday day left in the south: the schedule takes the whole thing. Then the Poema del Mar aquarium for €29 is the calmer, shorter alternative, with 4.8 out of 5 from 4,480 reviews.
